Team back in the USA

All,
Thank you for the prayers. We arrived safely this morning just after midnight. The trip was awesome.

Our last busride from Andahuaylas took about 27 hours start to finish.

We will be posting more on here soon. We should have a bunch of pictures on the bethany site in a couple of weeks.

The team did great.

It was hard to leave our Peruvian partners. Many of them took off for the bus ride to their homes in Huanhavalica, Peru. The others in Lima are preparing to meet another team from California and head to the jungle.

Your prayers worked miracles.
Serving Him together,
Mike

MY post for you!!!!

hello all!!!!

today marks our last day in andahuaylas. its bittersweet, for sure. i will definitely miss these faces we´ve met here. so many memories and fun times. god has been so faithful for us in every way.

tomorrow we start our (second) 24-hour-trip back to lima. it´ll be crazy, i´m sure. but its all worth it. : )

i miss everyone and everything so much. life in andahuaylas has been fun and different. but i was talking to gretchen and becky today during our late lunch about the things we take for granted and miss. like eating meals on a table. haha. and brushing your teeth from the tap. and salads. and sandals. and the water always being hot when you turn it to hot. (...ya, some of those showers were a little unpredictable). haha. and dollars. and of course, not having to worry about becoming sick. i have to confess, i got my taste of ¨señor boom boom¨ myself....and no, i won´t go into detail about that! but everything has been truly an experience of a lifetime. i wish you all could have seen it, smelled it, tasted it, breathed it, slept it, experienced it for yourselves. see you all in a few more days. love you and dont forget to keep praying. we haven´t. : D

love,

Andahuaylas outreach over - day at the ruins

Thank you all for the great comments. We are blessed to receive them.

Yesterday was an awesome end to our children's outreaches. We went to 4 medium to small villages. We split into 4 teams to do this. We repeated the children's program from our first 2 outreaches. We were able to pass out many bags of hats, scarves, jackets, and sweaters that we bought with us.

The village I went to, Nueva Eperanza, was about 2 hours and 3,000 ft up from Andahuaylas. We had over 150 kids come out from a village of 1000. We were greeted by people from the town crying that they had prayed a group would come to their village. We filled a very small church. We were blessed with and excited group of kids and adults. Many dozen made commitments to Christ. After the outreach we were invited to dinner and asked to stay for many days to continue to preach. We had to turn down that offer. However, we were asked to pray over a dieing man, Victor. Also, a lady, Phyllis, with a brain tumor. The kids gave us a tour of their town, school.

Today we visited a high mountain lake and the ruins at Sondar. These were built by locals rebelling against the Incas. The were last inhabited in 700 AD. The were set in a beautiful hill deep in the Andes.

We are on a small break now. Tonight is our last in Andahuaylas. Tomorrow we take a 24 hour bus ride back to Lima.

Prayer needs...
Final night with our local hosts. Tonight is Communion.
Safe travel back to Lima
Mentoring for kids who accepted Christ during the outreaches

Fiesta! Feliz dia de Peru

Yesterday was independance day here in Peru. But more importantly, we had our first outreach with the combined teams. We had a large group of kids and adults. We did worship, games, skits, prizes, and explained the wordless book. It was Awesome!

Last night we attended church. We participated in worship, presented a peruvian dance with our combined teams, and preached a message and testimony.

Today, Sunday, we went to the big market after devotions. It is a huge outdoor market with everything from pots and pans to sheep and bulls. Later we have practice, lunch, and church tonight.

Tomorrow we have another outreach. Our dinner tomorrow will be a national dish. Cui. Ask about it when we return.

I will be posting pictures later tonight or Monday.ç

THanks for praying.
God bless,
Mike

Welcome from the mountains!

we arrived safely in Andahuaylas. Thank you for all the prayers.

The process took 26 hours. wahoo! It involved walking with bags, taxis, a big nice bus with no airconditioning, and the final big van over 210 miles of off road dirt and gravel. We crossed two 15000 foot passes. A few folks got altitude sickness, but all are doing great now. We have been eating like kings at the pastors house. Lots of local food. the weather was warmer then normal. should be down below 30 tonight.
We spent the day learning dances, skits, songs, and enjoying the company of our peruvian partners. We have large outreaches saturday. over 800 kids are expeced. then all next week to over 300 kids each.
the team sends their best. it is hard to get internet time here.

Please continue to pray. More soon..
Serving Him,
Mike

Two weeks until we depart. We depart Monday July 23. We would love to have folks meet at Bethany Church at 9PM to pray with us before we leave. Peru is having record cold (it is winter there). The low temperature in the village we are traveling to was 9F last week. This site now has pictures of our mission partners in Peru at the upper right.
